Summary:
The System Director Clinical Pastoral Education is responsible for the effective leadership and management of The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Center and its staff, students, programs, and processes in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Spirituality of Catholic Health (CH) and the Standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), including recruitment, processing, interviewing, and assessing readiness of staff and applicants. The System Director CPE is also responsible for the orientation, planning, developing, implementing, supervision and evaluation of CPE units and providing supervision, leadership, direction, and focus for CPE students to enhance Spiritual Care and Spiritual Care Education across CH. The System Director Clinical Pastoral Education has direct oversight of the programmatic components and maintenance of a fully accredited clinical pastoral education program under the standards of ACPE. Develops curriculum, conducts, and selects students for all levels of CPE program (Level I, II and Supervisory) under the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).Supervises students' clinical work, provides education opportunities, and evaluates students. Engages in ongoing practice of Clinical Supervision of Level I and Level II CPE, Intern, Resident and Certified Educator students. Educates Certified Educator students and oversees their progress in supervising Level I and Level II students. Continually collaborates and cooperates with other Educators in the planning and administration of the overall training program including budget development, monitoring, and implementation with the appropriate and maximization of Medicare Pass-Through funding. Fluent in Spiritual Care Assessments and Documentation in EPIC and keeps in touch with direct patient care through rounds and visits with students. Participates in Western New York Regional Community of Practice group, serves as a resource to the Executive Vice President/Chief Mission Officer, and the Mission Leadership Team to develop strategies to enhance, promote and integrate spiritual care across the care continuum. The position will work collaboratively with other members of the Spiritual Care Department and Mission Integration Division, clinical and ancillary Directors, Physicians, members of the CPE Program's Professional Advisory Group, hospital, and health system leadership and management, and identified community partners. The CPE System Director is seen as an educational leader in CH and reports within the Mission Integration Department.
The position may be on-site or hybrid.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION• Master's Level Degree in Theology or related field required
• Ph.D. in pastoral ministry preferred
• Certification as a Clinical Pastoral Education Certified Educator or Associate Certified Educator, ACPE
• Certified (or eligible for certification) as Board Certified Chaplain by either the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Professional Chaplains required
• Ordained or commissioned by one's faith group or denomination. Denominational endorsement required
EXPERIENCE • Minimum 5 years of experience as a CPE Certified Educator with at least three years of pastoral supervisory and administrative experience in CPE program and/or department of pastoral care required
• At least 5 years of experience as a chaplain in the health care setting
• Experience working with multicultural and diverse religious backgrounds in highly desirable
• The incumbent must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills, as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements appropriate for the position. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
• One year pastoral experience in church or institution required
• Two years experience as Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor, supervising and teaching residents, interns and students required

• Skills in pastoral research and spiritual assessment; adept at the use of Electronic Medical Records for assessment and research, especially EPIC

WORKING CONDITIONS: • The CPE Director visits the various ministry clinical placement sites affiliated with the program where students are placed. The Director may also represent the program serving on a national and/or regional accreditation/certification organizations
• Some direct contact with patients with communicable diseases using accepted universal precautions
• Substantial time spent with students ministering to staff, patients and their loved ones requiring a high degree of emotional energy and mental alertness
• Must have mobility through the health institution's facilities which are handicapped accessible
• Must be able to travel to peer group meetings, Community of Practice sessions, and regional conferences/national conferences
