Summary:
The Emergency Department Nurse Attendant is responsible to assist the professional staff by performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nurse Attendant is responsible for the delivery of patient care in Emergency Department as directed by the Director or Registered Nurse as appropriate to the ages of patients served in this department. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of Mount St. Mary's Hospital and to incorporate the Hospital's goal of: Quality care, in a personal manner with total regard for individual human dignity.
Mount St. Mary's Hospital consists of multiple locations and associate may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION- High School or equivalent required
- Completion of Certified Nurse Attendant course preferred
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) preferred
EXPERIENCE- Six (6) month Nurse Attendant experience in a hospital/skilled facility or completed certified Nurse Attendant course or three months ER experience or equivalent EMT experience required
- Completion of a Certified Nurse Attendant course preferred
- Three (3) months previous Nurse Attendant experience in an emergency room setting preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS: - Accepts reassignments to other nursing units as directed
- Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
- Exposed to: infection from disease-bearing specimens; variety of electro-mechanical hazards;
- Housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); odorous chemical and specimens
- Flexibility in scheduled working hours/days to meet needs of unit
- Handles emergency or crisis situations (potential patient violence)
- May be exposed to: infectious and contagious diseases; toxic chemicals (i.e. photocopier)
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements
- Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards
- Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
