Summary:
The Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist is a healthcare provider who, working with the interdisciplinary health team, within his/her scope of practice is responsible for providing comprehensive care to ICU patients and patients with urgent needs in the hospital. This multifaceted role includes direct patient care, education, consultation, and research. Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist will be granted associated privileges by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.
Working under the supervision of the Intensivist Program Medical Director, the Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist will provide clinical care to critical patients. The job duties will also include providing emergent care and care upon request in the absence of the attending physician throughout the hospital. The Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist will utilize advanced clinical skills and knowledge to assess patients and manage all aspects of care, including ordering of diagnostic and the implementation of therapeutic procedures. He/she will communicate clinical issues to the attending physician on the team, submit orders according to standardized procedures/protocols, coordinate and schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in collaboration with the Intensivist physician. The Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist will interact with interdisciplinary departments to coordinate services. The Clinical Practitioner/ Intensivist will work collaboratively with members of the Medicine Department to ensure that continuity of care is maintained between inpatient care and referring physicians. The Clinical Practitioner/Intensivist will support/educate clinical nursing staff regarding patient goals and treatment strategies.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATIONNurse Practitioner
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Maintains a current New York State Professional RN license
- Maintains Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner Certification
- Meets credentialing requirements as appropriate through the Medical Staff Office
- CPR certified
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- FCCS certification through the Society of Critical Care Medicine within three (3) months of hire
OR
Physician Assistant
- Graduate of school approved by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants), CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education) and Accredited by the AMA
- Maintains a current New York State Physician Assistant license
- Meets credentialing requirements as appropriate through the Medical Staff Office
- CPR certified
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- FCCS certification through the Society of Critical Care Medicine within three (3) months of hire
EXPERIENCE- Minimum of three (3) years of previous critical care clinical experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills
