Summary:
Maintains electronic medical record integrity through the timely and accuracy and consistency of information across all entities of the Health System. The individual provides resolution of urgent MPI duplicate/overlay errors impacting patient care. The incumbent also performs investigation and resolution of non-emergent errors concerning potential duplicates using daily reports and task queues. Incumbent understands the legacy master patient indexes as well as the master patient index and the impact on downstream systems. Communicates with departments throughout the system and with partners and affiliate organizations to facilitate MPI and chart correction issues and resolution and communicates outcomes. Answers telephone, photocopies and faxes materials according to release of information policy, receives and greets the public, physicians, nurses, patients and other HIM customers in a friendly and welcoming manner. Ensures timely completion of death certificates as defined by NYS regulations.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION- High school graduate
- Medical terminology course
- AAS Degree in Secretarial Science or Medical Office Assistant is preferred
EXPERIENCE- At least six (6) months experience in an office setting, preferably a health related facility
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY- Ability to perform computer functions in a Microsoft Windows environment
- Must have good verbal, written, and computer communication skills, and ability to navigate the Internet
- Must demonstrate the ability to be detail-oriented and perform tasks at a high rate of accuracy
- Proficient with computers and keyboarding skills
- Must be able to type at or above the rate of 45 wpm
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to utilize all types of media: electronic health record, paper and microfilm is preferred
- Strong organizational and solid clerical and time management skills; as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Understands and maintains the confidential nature of information handled and discussed
- Ability to apply judgment independently, and prioritize tasks
WORKING CONDITIONS- Works in office setting, out of department storage areas and occasional travel to patient care units
ENVIRONMENT- Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs
- Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions
