Bargaining Unit: ACE Associates

Exempt from Overtime: Exempt: No

Work Schedule: Days with Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Hours: 5:45am to 1:45pm

Summary:

The Peer Advocate will provide support to program participants in a manner compliant with all program policies, procedures and philosophies. The Peer Advocate will participate as a member of the clinical team to support the patient's goals, and do so in a manner consistent with the Operating Principles for the Ministry of Catholic Health members. The peer will comply with the 5 identified domains as indicated in the NY certification skill and abilities. The position will support all outpatient SUD locations within Catholic Health so travel will be required.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION
  • High School diploma/NYSED approved High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • 46 hours of required training (advocacy, mentoring, education, recovery and wellness and ethical responsibility)
  • NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) OR
  • NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate-Provisional (CRPA-P)

EXPERIENCE
  • Full CRPA requires 500 hours of related volunteer or work experience
  • 25 hours of supervision by qualified supervisory staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
  • Knowledge of substance abuse disorders and recovery process
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
  • Bi-Lingual abilities appropriate to population served may provide additional opportunity for communication
  • Documentation must be legible, concise, and professional
  • Must demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with all patients who present for care, treatment and service
  • Must function as a team member, integrating the Value, Vision and Mission of Catholic Health
  • Experience with, and aptitude for basic computer skills
  • Must be able to travel across multiple locations
