Work Schedule: Evenings with Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Hours:

3:00pm-11:00pm Primary, 12:00pm-8:00pm, 1:00pm-9:00pm

Summary:

A magnetic resonance (MR) Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures and related clerical functions at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. An MR technologist is responsible for contrast agent preparation in accordance with guidelines set forth by NYSDOH, JC, OSHA, and the Catholic Health Imaging Services. An MR technologist is responsible for MRI safety screening of all patients and non-MRI associates prior to entering the MRI environment. After post hire training an MR technologist will demonstrate the ability to, and perform, a variety of technical procedures at a proficient level that require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative while completing diagnostic studies. An MR technologist will participate in after hours and weekend emergency call rotations as required by site specific expectations.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an Approved School of Radiologic Technology and/or graduate from an accredited/approved school/program of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Candidates who have graduated from an approved school of MRI must be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging technologists (ARMRIT)
  • Current Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists - Radiological Technologist Registry (ARRT) (R) must be maintained unless candidate is a graduate from a formal accredited/approved school/program of MRI

EXPERIENCE

  • 1 (one) year in an advanced modality (CT, US, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional Radiology/Cath Lab, Mammography) or 3 (three) years' experience as a Radiological Technologist ARRT (R)
  • If a newly hired candidate is not already ARRT or ARMRIT Certified as an MRI Technologist, the applicant must successfully complete assigned education for MRI safety, to be completed within the first two weeks on the job
  • If a newly hired candidate is not already ARRT or ARMRIT Certified as an MRI Technologist, the applicant must successfully complete assigned MRI Essentials education 3 to 6 months post hire
  • 1 (one) year MRI experience preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Technologist must not physically possess any medical/surgical appliances, staples, clips, and cardiac pacemakers etc.; which are contra-indicated for work in and around the area of a magnetic field. This requirement is in keeping with the established FDA safety guideline for MR Imaging

CREDENTIALS

  • New York State License as a "General Radiologic Technologist" unless the candidate graduated from an accredited/approved school/program of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Within 18 months Post-Hire: Associate must obtain Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists - Magnetic Resonance Imaging Registry (ARRT) (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) for anyone hired after 9/26/2023.
  • The following workflow is highly recommended for the MRI technologist to be successful in passing the ARRT or ARMRIT exams within the 18 month timeframe:

  1. As soon as technologists begins working independently, they should start documenting their cases in preparation to take the ARRT/ARMRIT exam.
  2. 6-12 months post hire, the technologist should study for the ARRT/ARMRIT exam. It is highly recommended that the technologist complete the additional modules which CH provided to study for the ARRT/ARMRIT examination. During this timeframe, the MRI technologist should work closely and consult with the Lead MRI technologist to receive guidance on preparing for the ARRT examination. The Lead MRI Technologists should mentor new technologists.
  3. The technologist should attempt the ARRT exam the first time around the 12 month post hire timeframe. This will allow the technologist plenty of time to attempt the ARRT/ARMRIT exam a minimum of 3 attempts if needed.
If the technologist has made an attempt to follow the timeline above or there are extenuating circumstances which may have caused the technologist to be unsuccessful achieving MRI accreditation, extensions maybe granted on a case-by-case basis.

  • Certified to inject with NYSDOH within 90 days

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Good general health necessary in order to stand and walk most of the day. Must have the ability to pull, push, and lift patients and equipment
  • Participate in site rotations where applicable, see site specific department requirements

  • Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions

  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms, ionizing radiation and strong magnetic field
