Summary:
The pre-surgical evaluation registered nurse is responsible for assessing and educating the surgical patient care prior to admission to the hospital for their procedure. Collaboratively works with physicians' offices, nurse practitioners, the pre-surgical evaluation liaison and other hospital departments to prepare the patient for surgery. The pre-surgical evaluation RN assesses the surgical patient, provides pre-operative teaching and identifies pre-operative problems and coordinates follow-up for resolution prior to surgery.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current New York state License or Permit
- Current BLS certification or obtained within 6 months
- Meets and is current and competent with all New York State licensure requirements, not limited to Infection Control and Child Abuse mandatory reporting
EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of medical/surgical experience required

- Ability to perform technical aspects of job with unit-based equipment
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work across Service Line
- Ability to meet demands of unit staffing - need for increased census and acuity
