Work Schedule: Days and Evenings

Hours: 7:15am to 5:15pm/7:30am to 5:30pm

Summary:

The Women's Health Center Registered Professional Nurse coordinates total nursing care for the patient being cared for by the Women's Health Center, OBGYN, and MFM administering nursing care and is responsible for the delivery of the patient care through the process of planning, implementation and evaluation to the ages of patients served based on the areas of clinical practice, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Physician. He/ she identifies individualized outcomes to develop a plan of care to attain those outcomes for the patient and her family. The RN maintains the flow of information, by obtaining and reviewing results, communicating results with the attending physician and appropriately counseling the patient. The RN is proficient in the application and interpretation of electronic fetal heart rate monitor tracings.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current New York State Licensure
  • First trimester Screening Counseling Certification (within six (6) months of hire)
  • AWHONN Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Credentialed
  • Must attain NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within two (2) years of assignment; after attainment of initial Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification, must recertify every three (3) years

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three (3) years in OB/GYN experience
  • One (1) year of acute care nursing experience
  • Two (2) years Labor and Delivery experience
  • Fetal Heart Rate Monitor interpretation experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Possess a problem-solving approach and apply good judgment
  • The role requires excellent judgment and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills to provide optimal patient care under rapidly changing conditions
  • The RN directs a small group of employees performing similar or related tasks of a semi-skilled nature
  • Assigns, assesses performance and maintains efficiency of staff assigned to her/him

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to work well in stressful situations and conditions with frequent interruptions
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Good mental and physical health
  • The ability to cope with stress and handle multiple priorities is required
  • Physical activities include: lifting, stooping, constant walking
  • Finger and hand dexterity and acute sensory faculties (visual acuity, aural acuity, and olfactory acuity) are required to appropriately assess changes in patient condition

  • Working in the Women's Health Center
  • May also be exposed to communicable diseases
