Summary:
The Coordinator Recreational Therapy is responsible for the planning, supervision and implementation of programs that address the socialization and recreational needs of each participant. Continually identifies and promotes interventions that will stimulate participant's mental and physical capabilities to their fullest extent resulting in the optimal level of independent functioning for each participant. Enables participants to foster a sense of usefulness, self-respect and dignity in maintaining their quality of life.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
- Minimum of Associate degree in recreational related field required. Five (5) years experience leading and directing recreational therapy in a long term care facility will be accepted in lieu of degree.
EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of age-appropriate experience within the past 5 years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- *Bilingual candidate required for this role English/Spanish preference*
- Effective communication skills including the ability to assist team members in understanding participant's psycho-social profiles, and which may be inclusive of approach, tone of voice, speed of communication, respectfulness and non-verbal communication
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships and to work productively with all levels of personnel including physicians, families and care givers
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, participants, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public
