Summary:
The Clinical Specialist is an Advanced-Practice Registered Nurse who is an expert practitioner, collaborator, consultant, educator, clinician, and researcher and change agent. This individual demonstrates advanced clinical competence and the expertise to lead nursing staff in education and in improving the quality and delivery of patient care. This position requires a high level of creative problem solving and critical thinking. The Clinical Specialist will assess, plan and intervene in complex patient cases, providing support and education to nursing staff, patients and their family members. The Clinical Specialist is responsible for the education and training of nurses, policy development and the implementation of evidenced based practice changes. This position has neonatal education oversight at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo (MHB) and Sisters of Charity Hospital (SOCH).
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
- BSN required
- MS degree from an accredited program required
- Attainment of NCC Certification within twelve (12) months of hire in specialty field
EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in related specialty position
- Three (3) years current nursing experience
- Current BLS and NRP certifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional and clerical employees
- Possesses active listening skills
- Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals
- Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff
- Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment
- Performs principal clinical responsibilities, according to the appropriate age and condition of the patient, as specified in the general nursing care competencies and unit specific competencies
- In depth knowledge of change theory and demonstrated ability and guide change process
