Status: Full Time Facility: Mt St Marys Hospital of Niagara Falls

Work Schedule: Nights with Rotation to Days Weekend and Holiday Rotation Shift: 3:

Exempt from Overtime: Exempt: No FTE: 1.000000: Bargaining Unit: SEIU Local 1199

Summary:


The Registered Professional Maternity Nurse accepts responsibility for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate to the ages of the patients served based on the areas of clinical practice. Provides professional nursing care for patients in ante partum, labor/delivery and post-partum. Directs and guides patient and family teaching. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital/staff information. Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of Mount Saint Mary's Hospital and to incorporate the Hospital's goal of: Quality care, in a personal manner with total regard for individual human dignity.


Responsibilities:


EDUCATION
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required
  • RN licensure in New York State
  • Must possess current BLS within sixty (60) days from time of placement and must have current ACLS and NRP within twelve (12) months from time of placement.
  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred

EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) years of recent Medical/Surgical experience as a Registered Nurse; or one (1) year of recent CCU/ICU and/or Emergency Room experience as a Registered Nurse required

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
  • Exposed to: a variety of electro-mechanical hazards; odorous chemical and specimens; infection from disease-bearing specimens; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues; hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment; Housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
  • Flexibility in scheduled working hours/days to meet needs of unit
  • Handles: absentee replacement on short notice; emergency or crisis situations (potential patient violence)
  • May be exposed to: infections and contagious diseases; biohazardous, radioactive substances; toxic chemicals (i.e. photocopier)
  • May perform emergency care
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements
  • Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquires
  • Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards
  • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
  • Requires judgement/action which could result in death of patient
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
  • Subject to many interruptions
  • Required Protective Equipment:
  • Eye/face protection may be required
  • Gowns may be required
  • Hair covering may be required
  • Lab coat or apron may be required
  • Mask may be required
  • Sterile/non-sterile medical gloves may be required
  • Utility gloves may be required
