Summary:


The Manager of the Core Laboratory and Automation assumes responsibility for the coordinated administrative and functional operations of the Catholic Health (CH) Central Core Laboratory, Automation, and Blood Bank sections. This encompasses the implementation of the policies & procedures related to automation, chemistry, special chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis and blood bank. Responsibilities include the oversight of the instrumentation, software upgrades and hardware maintenance, as well as coordination of the section supervisors and Senior Technologists. Delegates duties and special projects as needed to Supervisor of Laboratory Automation, Supervisor of Blood Bank, and Supervisor of 2nd and 3rd shift. Also includes the investigation of new platforms and the development of new test procedures and/or modifications. Provides technical expertise and guidance for the sections; assists the Technical Director in the consolidation and standardization of laboratory testing. This position assists the Technical Director as liaison between the Lab and the site Nursing & Medical staffs, Purchasing and Finance, and Quality and Patient Safety. Assists the Manager of Pathology and Quality Initiatives as needed. This position is the coordinator for student rotational activities from local colleges and universities at the site and participates in regulatory reviews by Joint Commission and NYSDOH. The Manager has oversight of site specific laboratory supplies and labor. This individual participates with other site managers to develop, present and implement strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Medical Technology or equivalent

  • NYS State Licensure

  • Master's degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Six (6) years of clinical laboratory work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in stressful situations
  • Ability to work with infectious and/or hazardous material
  • Customer focused

WORKING CONDITIONS
