Hours: Hours are varied based on needs of sites and emergency response

Summary:

The Manager of Health, Safety and Environment is responsible for development, implementation, management, and oversight of all Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) programs and policies for their designated site. Position responsible for all aspects of the Emergency Management program to ensure that the site provides for the safety and protection of its patients, visitors and associates; provides direction during disasters or emergency situations; interacts with area hospitals and government agencies in the coordination and integration of its response to such disasters or emergency situations. As directed, implement HS&E processes designed to minimize/mitigate risk of work-related injury and illness in order to achieve the maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the workforce.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION
  • Bachelors Degree in Healthcare, Physical Sciences or related field strongly preferred
  • Significant hospital based health & safety job experience would be considered in lieu of degree
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of three (3) - five (5) years of relevant work experience in Health & Safety, as well as emergency preparedness management in a hospital setting preferred
  • Previous experience in emergency management program management desired, such as Emergency Action Planning
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Valid Driver's License and use of a personal vehicle required
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety prevention principles
  • Knowledge of Incident Investigation techniques
  • Solid training competencies to educate managers and associates in Health and Safety topics
  • Strong knowledge and experience with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS); willing to certify if not certified
  • Excellent knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, codes, and OSHA regulations applicable to safety
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project software applications
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrated personal organization and time management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This job will include travel between various Catholic Health (CH) facilities or sites
  • Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs
  • Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions
  • Intermittent exposure to a few unpleasant physical conditions
  • Frequent exposure to many disagreeable physical conditions
  • Continuous exposure to extremely disagreeable physical conditions
