Work Schedule: Days Evenings Nights with Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Hours: 7a-3p, 1p-9p, 3p-11p

Summary:

Working under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services and Pharmacy Residency Program Director, ensures compliance with all regulations that govern the practice, all operational policies, procedures and services, and all clinical pharmacy services at the assigned Catholic Health (CH) hospital and its affiliated off site locations and services. The Pharmacy Resident is responsible to provide consultative or direct pharmaceutical care as a member of the health care team in the acute and/or ambulatory care setting. This individual is expected to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other health professionals to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate pharmacotherapy to ensure effective, safe, and economic patient care. The Pharmacy Resident will assist the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists in the development of Pharmacy clinical services and participate in the clinical training of pharmacists, students, and other health professionals. The Pharmacy Resident will also participate in the technical and clinical functions of their practice site.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy required
  • Valid license and current registration to practice Pharmacy in New York State as a Pharmacist prior to August 15th (per year)
  • Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency before beginning of the PGY2 residency year or a program in ASHP-accreditation process (e.g. one with candidate or preliminary accreditation status); at the time of application, enrollment in a PGY 1 program is acceptable
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Ability to work under nominal supervision, but able to make independent decisions in a variety of clinical, administrative and technical matters
  • Willingness to work with the realization that incompetence and errors may have serious consequences for the patient
  • Sustained attention to details over extended periods of time
  • Memory for details
  • Alertness to detect errors in prescriptions, dosages and compounding
  • Fairness in dealing with subordinates
  • Courtesy and tact in dealing with patients, members of the medical staff, other hospital personnel and visitors to the pharmacy/clinic
  • Considerable initiative and judgment involved in solving pharmaceutical, chemical and pharmacologic problems in furnishing information concerning medications to physicians and nurses; and in maintaining the work flow of the pharmaceutical services and patient care
  • Must be able to operate computers, information systems and professionally related equipment
  • Willingness to work in a clinical setting and interact with patients and other health care providers on a daily basis

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT
  • Works in a clinic/office setting with considerable periods of standing and sitting
  • Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs
  • Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions, chemical odors, skin irritants, chemotherapeutic agents, carcinogens, blood and body fluids or products, hazards resultant from usage of needles, bottles, and electrical equipment
  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases of pathogens through patient contact
  • Travel to various clinic and offsite locations required
  • Works unusual hours, days and shifts to accommodate needs of the department and its various inpatient and outpatient services
