Work Schedule: Nights with Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Hours: 7pm-7:30am

JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Professional Nurse assigned to the CCU/ICU is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate to the ages of the patients served, based on the areas of clinical practice. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital/staff information. Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of Mount Saint Mary's Hospital and to incorporate the Hospital's goal of: Quality care, in a personal manner with total regard for individual human dignity.

REPORTS TO: Director Patient Care Services

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

EDUCATION

•Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required

•RN licensure in New York State required

• Must possess current BLS within sixty (60) days from time of placement and must have current
• ACLS within twelve (12) months from time of placement
• Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred

EXPERIENCE

•Current Critical Care Nurse experience with a minimum of one (1) year critical care clinical experience strongly preferred

• Good human relations and oral/written communication skills required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

•Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens; a variety of electromechanical hazards; odorous chemicals and specimens; housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals; hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); hot or noisy equipment

• May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases; exposed to toxic chemicals due to photocopier
• Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
• Subject to burns and cuts; injury from moving parts of equipment; varying and unpredictable situations; many interruptions
• Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements
• Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
• Handles emergency or crisis situations
• May perform emergency care
• Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
• Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
• Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient
