Hours: Varies to meet the needs of the perioperative department. Incumbent will share management on call responsibilities

The Nursing Supervisor Perioperative in collaboration with the Perioperative Director and Nurse Managers supervises and coordinates the activities of the perioperative departments (OR, PACU, ASU, PST, Endoscopy, Perioperative Floats). The Nursing Supervisor engages in a variety of procedures through interpretation of the hospital and department policy and procedures for staff personnel; participates in the investigation and preparation of reports to improve patient care, safety, education development and personnel performance. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for ensuring appropriate staff is available.


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in New York State
  • BSN required
  • MSN preferred
  • CNOR preferred
  • BLS required/ACLS preferred

  • Minimum of one year experience in an OR required
  • Experience in preceptor, leadership or teaching preferred
  • Membership in professional organization preferred

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to use and teach use of highly technological surgical equipment and associated supplies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop rapport with multiple health care disciplines and providers across the continuum of care
  • Ability to relate well to physicians to maximize quality of patient care
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and networking skills
  • Ability to work in high stress environment and to manage conflict
  • Problem solving skills and ability to prioritize competing requests
  • Flexible and composed under pressure
  • Ability to utilize professional judgement and autonomy in decision making, seeking assistance from management as needed
  • Working knowledge of the Union contract allowing collaboration and adherence to the contract in decision making

  • The position required heavy physical demands of lifting, positioning patients and moving equipment
  • Works within surgical services nursing units
