Summary:
Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for patients with neurological disease. Position focuses mainly on inpatient care, specifically care of the general neurology and stroke neurology patient, though may also work in outpatient neuroscience clinical practice. Provides general neurology and acute stroke care to Emergency Department patients, Observation Unit patients and hospital inpatients. Participates in patient and family teaching. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with health care team members in maintaining standards for professional practice in the clinical setting. Supports delivery of evidence-based acute stroke assessment and management. Provides expert neuroscience consultation and practice oversight. Develops and implements patient management plans, records, progress notes and assists in provision of continuity of care. Develops and delivers acute stroke continuing education programs. Participates in performance improvement processes. Participates in Comprehensive Stroke research.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree
- Graduate of an approved NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
- CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the AMA) accredited Physician Assistant training program;
- OR graduate degree as Nurse Practitioner
EXPERIENCE - Two (2) years clinical experience in neuroscience with direct exposure to critical care preferred
- 1-3 years of neuroscience experience as NP/Physician Assistant preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY - Physical activity includes: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, waling, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and heavy work:
- CPR Certified
- Computer Literate
- Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills
- ACLS Certified
- Clinical experience in neurosciences preferred
